Whitehead, on Flax, Tiritiri Matangi, New Zealand

The whitehead is most commonly heard chattering away with squeaks and buzzes within its flock in the forest canopy. Some calls even sound like that of the canary, giving it its alternative name of the 'bush canary'.

Here, a whitehead rests on a dried flax-flower stem on Tiritiri Matangi, New Zealand.
