Burrowing Owl, California, North America

These adult burrowing owls still aren't too old to play peek-a-boo! In reality, these owls nest in burrows, usually excavated by prairie dogs and squirrels. If danger approaches, they will retreat to their burrow or fly off in the other direction to distract any intruders from the nesting site. Northern California.
