Tui Pictures - Photos

The tui (Prosthemadera novaeseelandiae) is endemic to New Zealand. It is regarded as one of the forest's finest singers, with some of its notes too high for human ears to hear.
A closer look at these pictures show that their plumage is not simply a dull blue-black colour, but a beautiful iridescent blue and green with a brownish shoulder cape.
Tuis belong to the family of nectar eaters, and favourite food sources are the flowers of native trees and shrubs, such as flax, rata, and fuchsia, puriri, kowhai, and pohutukawa.
In some of these photographs, you can see that their foreheads are stained yellow/orange with pollen.
